Gorgeous calligraphy canvas print by Nawaf Soliman as part of the Cities in the Heart exhibit.
Numbered giclée on wood-stretched canvas
After the flood, the earth swallowed its water, the sky took off, and Jaffa emerged. A bride on the coast of Palestine, adorned with oranges. Jaffa has a long history and was considered an important Canaanite city. It was crossed by the Pharaohs, Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, and Romans.
Jaffa is referenced in the biblical story of Jonas who found a ship at the port of Jaffa, which he used to return to his people. Jaffa has become a cultural capital and a destination for writers, journalists, singers, dramatists, and painters.
In this painting, the name of the city was crafted in innovative Thuluth Arabic calligraphy script formations and repeated seven times relative to its seven neighborhoods, in bright colors.
